What is uro-gynecological physiotherapy?
Urogynecological physiotherapy focuses on the health of the pelvic floor: the muscles, ligaments, and tissues that support the bladder, uterus, and rectum. It is aimed at women at all stages of life, whether to prevent a disorder, treat it, or support a transitional period such as pregnancy or menopause.
Functional support
This approach is not limited to the perineum. It takes into account the posture, breathing, abdominal band, and the overall activity of the patient. The goal is to integrate pelvic health with general health, taking into account the patient’s life history and the hormonal variations specific to each individual.
Internal or external examination?
This is a common question, and the answer depends entirely on the patient’s situation. At the initial assessment, the physiotherapist conducts a detailed history to understand the symptoms, background, and goals. Depending on the case, the follow-up combines external techniques (posture, breathing, exercises) and, when indicated and with the patient’s agreement, an internal examination to accurately assess muscle function.
